The Macintosh operating systems has an invisible file known as the
desktop file. This file is used to store information about what
programs are associated with what documents. It also stores all
the images used as icons for your Macintosh. Depending on how
often you use your Macintosh, the desktop file may become corrupt,
so it's a good idea to rebuild the desktop once or
twice a month.
