Q: I just updated my webpage, but when I try to view it the webserver shows me my
old page?
A: Your old page is still in the cache of your browser. Netscape 2.01 has a bug related to
daylight savings time and it doesn't recognize files updated in the last one hour as
'new'. Clear the cache of your browser (for Netscape go to Options | Network Preferences |
Cache).
Q: I am using <insert provider here> services, and my Internet programs
work fine. However, when I try to use your dial-in numbers my programs don't work.
A: Many nationwide service providers are using their own network protocols which are NOT
COMPATIBLE with the PPP/SLIP standard. These protocols are designed to redirect network
output to your programs. PPP/SLIP gives you your own virtual IP address to put you
directly on the Internet.
Q: Can I use the Trumpet Winsock under windows 3.x to connect to DigiTex.net?
A: Yes, but you need a special login.cmd script.
Copy the login.cmd in your trumpet directory, then start the TCP manager, and go to the
menu topic PPP options. Put your username and password there. We do not recommend using
the trumpet winsock for Windows 3.1
Q: How do I configure Netscape to use E-Mail and News?
A: Choose from the menu Options | Mail and News Preferences | Servers and specify our
servers there. Our news server is news.DigiTex.net, our Incoming Mail (POP3)
server is mail.DigiTex.net, and our Outgoing Mail (SMPT) server is
mail.DigiTex.net.
Q: Which version of MacOS for Macintosh do I need to be able to run Internet
software?
A: You need MacOS 7.5.1 or
higher and at least 8MB of RAM.
Q: When I try to retrieve my e-mails using Eudora I get the error message: Cannot
find DNS entry for DigiTex.net
A: You need to specify for POP account in the setup username@mail.DigiTex.net,
(note the difference from your e-mail address 'username@DigiTex.net'), because Eudora
connects to the computer specified in the POP account to receive the mail messages.
Q: How do I configure Windows NT 4.0 to connect to DigiTex.net?
A: Go to 'My Computer', 'Dial-up Networking' and create a 'New' phonebook entry. You must
configure it as follows: Server - only 'TCP/IP' for network protocols, 'Enable
software compression', uncheck 'Enable LCP ext.', Script - none, Security
- Accept any. Under 'Server' - 'TCP/IP settings' specify 'Server assigned IP',
specify primary name server address as 68.93.224.10 and the secondary
at 68.93.224.12, leave the WINS zeroes and check 'use
IP header compression' and 'default gateway'.
Q: I have Linux, how do I connect to DigiTex.net?
A: Use the pppd to establish a PPP connection. Example:
pppd connect 'chat -v "" ATDT4589062 CONNECT "" ' /dev/modem
38400 debug crtscts defaultroute modem +ua ~/.ppp_login
The file ~/.ppp_login must contain your username and password, separated with a
newline.
Q: Can I use Microsoft's FrontPage
to design my web pages?
Microsoft still doesn't have the FrontPage extensions available for our server and OS
versions, so you will have problems uploading your web pages directly with FrontPage if
your web site is on our Unix servers. However, you can still use FrontPage to design your
pages, and use any FTP program to upload your web pages. If your web site is on our NT
servers you can upload with FrontPage (see below)
Q: Can I use Netscape Navigator as an FTP program? (e.g. to upload my web pages?)
Yes, please click here
for more details.
Q: How do I upload my web pages with Microsoft FrontPage?
First, make sure that the web server where your virtual domain resides supports the
proprietary FrontPage extensions (contact webmaster@digitex.net
if you're not sure). You need to open the FrontPage explorer, connect to your web site,
list the webs and open the <Root Web>. After that you just save your files.
