How to Troubleshoot Dial-Up Networking

  1. Double-click My Computer on the desktop.
  2. Double-click the Dial-Up Networking icon.
  3. Single-click the DigiTex.net icon.
  4. Click File on the menu bar.
  5. Click Properties.
  6. Verify that the modem type and speed are correct.
  7. Click on Configure.
  8. Check the Maximum Speed setting. If you have a 14.4 modem, use 19200. If you have a 28.8 modem, use 38400.
  9. Click the OK button.
  10. Click the Server Type button.
  11. The Type of Dial-up Server field should read PPP: Windows 95, Windows NT 3.5, Internet.
  12. The only items that should be checked are Enable software compression and TCP/IP.
  13. Click the TCP/IP Settings button.
  14. The Server assigned IP address field should be selected.
  15. The Specify name server addresses field should be selected.
  16. Verify the DNS addresses. Currently, the preferred order is 68.93.224.10 and 68.93.224.12
  17. Both Use IP header compression and Use default gateway fields at the bottom of this tab should be checked.
  18. Click the OK button.
  19. Click the OK button again.
  20. Click the OK button one more time.
  21. Close the Dial-Up Networking window.
  22. Click the Control Panel icon.
  23. Click the Network Control Panel.
  24. Look in the window under The following network components are installed.
  25. There should be only three network components listed: Client for Microsoft Networks, Dialup Adapter and TCP/IP Do you have any other network components listed? If YES, select and remove the extra components. (If IPX/SPX is one of them, delete it first.)
  26. If components are missing, add them. (If you need assistance, contact DigiTex.net's Technical Support at 1-817-558-6230.
  27. Under Primary Network Logon, make sure that Client for Microsoft Networks is selected.
  28. Single-click the TCP/IP network component.
  29. Click Properties button.
  30. Obtain an IP address automatically should be selected.
  31. Click the DNS Configuration tab.
  32. Select Disable DNS.
  33. Click the Bindings tab.
  34. Make sure that Client for Microsoft Networks is the only protocol that is checked.
  35. Click the OK button.
  36. Single-click the Dial-Up Adapter network component.
  37. Click Properties.
  38. Click the Bindings tab.
  39. Make sure that TCP/IP is checked.
  40. Click the OK button.
  41. Click the OK button again.
  42. When Windows95 prompts you to restart your computer, Click the OK button.
  43. After your computer has restarted, click the Start button.
  44. Click Find.
  45. Click Files or Folders.
  46. In the Named field, type winsock.dll
  47. In the Look in field, you should see c: (If you do not see c: select it now.)
  48. Make sure that Include subfolders is checked.
  49. Click Find Now.
  50. Find any other winsock.dll files on that list that are larger or smaller than 42K in size.
  51. For all other winsock.dll files, right-click on file.
  52. Click Rename.
  53. Change the name of the file from Winsock.dll to Winsock.old (Repeat for all extra winsock.dll files.) Repeat operation for Wsock32.dll files. Click the Start button.
  54. Click Find.
  55. Click Files or Folders.
  56. In the Named field, type Wsock32.dll
  57. In the Look in field, you should see c: (If you do not see c: select it now.
  58. Make sure that Include subfolders is checked.
  59. Click Find Now.
  60. Find any Wsock32.dll files on that list that are larger or smaller than 65K in size.
  61. For all other Wsock32.dll files, right-click on file.
  62. Click Rename.
  63. Change the name of the file from Wsock32.dll to Wsock32.old (Repeat for all extra Wsock32.dll files.) Connect to DigiTex.net and try to access various web sites
