Error: "PPP Negotiation Failed During Establish Phase"

- Double-click the Internet Access program group.
- Double-click the blue telephone icon to open the Internet Dialer.
- Click Options from the menu bar.
- Click Preferences.
- Click in the box Administrative Mode to put an x in it.
- Click the OK button.

- Click Options again.
- Click Session Setup.

- Click the Handshake Login button.
- If you do not have a Handshake Login button, you have probably been set up for PAP (password authentication protocol.) Go to the document: PAP.
- Make sure that the box Prompt for username is empty.
- If are dialing a number outside of Southern California, insert your username.
- Verify the spelling of your username (be sure to observe the proper case.)
- Make sure that the box Prompt for password is empty.
- Verify the spelling and case of your password (delete and re-enter it to be sure.)
- Click the OK button.
- Click the OK button.
- Click Options and select Site Setup.

- Click the Handshake button.
- Under Handshake Kind, Auto Handshake should be selected.
CR on connect field should be set to NONE.
- You should see Handshake event 1 of 2. If not, Remove the extra events or add events, as appropriate (if you need assistance doing this, contact
DigiTex.net's Technical Support.)
- The Recv: field should contain ogin:
- The Kind field should contain username.
- The Wait field should contain 60 seconds.
- The Send field should be blank.
- The box Append CR on Send should have an x in it.

- Scroll down to Handshake Event 2 of 2.
- The Recv: field should contain ssword:
- The Kind field should contain Password.
- The Wait field should contain 60 seconds.
- The Send field should be blank.
- The box Append CR on Send, should have an x in it.
- Click the OK button.
- Click the OK button again.
- To dial into the network, click Connect from the menu bar.
- Click on your username.
- If you are still receiving an error message, check the DigiTex.net system status page (via the
DigiTex.net for authentication-related outages.
- If this resolution is unsuccessful and there are no known outages, go to the document How to Configure
Internet Access for PAP.
