Error: "PPP Negotiation Failed During Establish Phase"

  1. Double-click the Internet Access program group.
  2. Double-click the blue telephone icon to open the Internet Dialer.
  3. Click Options from the menu bar.
  4. Click Preferences.
  5. Click in the box Administrative Mode to put an x in it.
  6. Click the OK button.

  7. Click Options again.
  8. Click Session Setup.

  9. Click the Handshake Login button.
  10. If you do not have a Handshake Login button, you have probably been set up for PAP (password authentication protocol.) Go to the document: PAP.
  11. Make sure that the box Prompt for username is empty.
  12. If are dialing a number outside of Southern California, insert your username.
  13. Verify the spelling of your username (be sure to observe the proper case.)
  14. Make sure that the box Prompt for password is empty.
  15. Verify the spelling and case of your password (delete and re-enter it to be sure.)
  16. Click the OK button.
  17. Click the OK button.
  18. Click Options and select Site Setup.

  19. Click the Handshake button.
  20. Under Handshake Kind, Auto Handshake should be selected.
    CR on connect field should be set to NONE.
  21. You should see Handshake event 1 of 2. If not, Remove the extra events or add events, as appropriate (if you need assistance doing this, contact DigiTex.net's Technical Support.)
  22. The Recv: field should contain ogin:
  23. The Kind field should contain username.
  24. The Wait field should contain 60 seconds.
  25. The Send field should be blank.
  26. The box Append CR on Send should have an x in it.

  27. Scroll down to Handshake Event 2 of 2.
  28. The Recv: field should contain ssword:
  29. The Kind field should contain Password.
  30. The Wait field should contain 60 seconds.
  31. The Send field should be blank.
  32. The box Append CR on Send, should have an x in it.
  33. Click the OK button.
  34. Click the OK button again.
  35. To dial into the network, click Connect from the menu bar.
  36. Click on your username.
  37. If you are still receiving an error message, check the DigiTex.net system status page (via the DigiTex.net for authentication-related outages.
  38. If this resolution is unsuccessful and there are no known outages, go to the document How to Configure Internet Access for PAP.
