How to Minimize GPF's (General Protection Faults)

- On the Program Manager menu bar, click File.
- Click the Run button.
- In the Command Line text box, type c:\digitex\netscape\netscape.ini.
- Click the OK button.
- From the menu bar, click Search.
- Click the Find button.
- In the Find What text box, type asy.
- Click the Find Next button.
- Click the Find Next button again.
- Click the Cancel button.
- On the line where you see Use Async DNS=yes, delete yes and type no.
- On the next line down, change the value for Max Connections=4 to Max Connections=1.
- On the menu bar, click File.
- Click the Exit button.
- When you see the prompt: Do you want to save the changes? click Yes.
- On the menu bar, click File.
- Click the Exit button.
- When you see This will end your Windows session, click OK.
- At the C:\ prompt, type scandisk and press the Enter key.
- When you see Scandisk has finished testing the file structure of drive c... and Do you want to perform a surface scan now?, press the Enter key.
- Scandisk may take up to thirty minutes or more depending on the size and speed of your hard drive. Once Scandisk is complete and you have returned to the C:\ prompt, type defrag and follow the prompts for it.
- Find out from the documentation for your computer what kind of video card you have.
- Go to the web site for the manufacturer of your video card to get the latest drivers for it. Refer to the list of video card manufacturers and web sites.
